'I am extremely proud to be the Divisional Commander for West Division. I've been with Kent Police for 19 years having worked in a variety of roles, both as a uniformed officer and as a detective.

My dedicated team of officers and staff and I work hard to keep the people of West Kent safe. We work closely with local authorities, the health service and other agencies. We have built up strong relationships with residents and businesses to make sure crime and anti-social behaviour are dealt with effectively.'

Local priorities

Our focus at West Division is to protect vulnerable people

Domestic abuse
This is a crime that is often hidden from society but has a huge impact on all those involved is is difficult to break away from. We work with many agencies to make sure the right support for victims and families is in place throughout the criminal justice process.
Cross-border crime
We have borders with a number of counties and work closely with Essex Police, Sussex Police and the Metropolitan Police to stop offenders evading justice.
Hate crime
As an area with a diverse population we will not tolerate discriminatory behaviour. We build relationships with all our communities and deal rigorously with hate crime or incidents.

Community policing

Your district commander is Chief Inspector Pete Steenhuis.

The Community Safety Units (CSUs) in Tonbridge and Malling and Tunbridge Wells deal with local crime and safety issues.

Officers in the CSUs work alongside staff from other agencies, including Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council.

They aim to create a safe environment for you by reducing crime and anti-social behaviour. Working alongside your local PCSO, the CSUs have an important role in community policing.

You also have a Local District Policing Team. This is a group of officers who:

respond to calls for assistance after you've called 999 or 101 (these calls go through to our Control Room*)
investigate local crime
carry out patrols

*Our Force Control Room is the first point of contact if you call Kent Police for help. They take 999 emergency calls and 101 non-emergency calls.
